May 2012 Classes—–
The Art Association of Oswego will be offering new classes for the month of May. We plan on having a year full of activities and events, so continue to watch for the announcements. The AAO is located in Building 30 of the Fort Ontario complex at the north end of East Fourth Street, Oswego. Check the location of each particular workshop as some will be held at the AAO building and some at the artist’s studio. Details and a supply list will be given at registration. Upcoming classes for the month of May are:
Intro to Building Boxes out of Stained Glass (3-session class)
Description: Building Boxes out of Stained Glass is a 3-session course designed to teach adults who already have a basic working knowledge of stained glass how to build a stained glass box. Students should have their own tools. Some materials will be available for purchase.

- Where: Glass Haven Studio – 334 County Route 89, Oswego, NY
- Time: 6-9 PM
- Cost: Tuition for this course is $55 for AAO Members and $65 for Non-members.

Hand Building Clay Boxes (2-session class, offered at 2 different times)
Description: This class is for participants 12 and older, beginner to advanced, and is offered in two sessions – one in the afternoon, one in the evening. The first week, students will be making a covered box out of high-fire clay. The second week will be for glazing the boxes. All supplies are included.

Basic Oil Painting (1-session class, offered at 2 different times)
Description: This class is for adults with beginning to advanced skills and is offered in two sessions – one in the afternoon, one in the evening. Participants will be working from a print of a master’s painting. We will learn basic blending of primary colors, how to create black, and the application of paint. The objective of this class is to help you try out oil painting without the expense of buying all the supplies. All supplies are included.

Watercolor Workshop (4-session class)
Description: The objective of this workshop is to show the vast range and flexibility of watercolor and to put emotion and conviction into painting by exploring, experimenting and developing the creativity of each individual. Students will work from still-life, landscape, portrait, or their own source material. The workshop is open to painters of all levels.

Open Ceramics Studio – Mondays
The Art Association of Oswego (AAO) is offering two classes in carving this October.
John Pupparo will teach an Introduction to Carving on Tuesday and Thursday evenings on October 4 and 6 from 6:00 pm to 9:00 pm and a Wood Carving class for beginners and intermediate students on Tuesday and Thursday evenings on October 11, 13, 18, and 20, from 6:00 pm to 9:00 pm. All classes will be offered at the Art Association of Oswego.
John Pupparo’s Introduction to Carving class will expose students to various mediums (wood, clay, wax) and methods for carving, and how to use and maintain hand tools safely. Students will get some hands-on experience with wood carving. Use of basic tools and materials is included in the cost of the class. Tuition is $45.00 for AAO members and $55.00 for non-members.
John Pupparo’s Wood Carving 4-night class is geared toward beginning and intermediate students. Carving techniques will be practiced and refined, and students will work on a project of their own design. Students will need to provide their own tools & materials, which can be purchased from www.Woodcraft.com including:

Ceramic Sculpture Classes
These classes will focus on making, by hand, creative and innovative ceramic pieces in the round. Experience in sculpting is not necessary as she will teach basic hand-building skills; those with experience are also welcome.
When: Mon 10/10, Wed 10/12, Wed 10/19, & Fri 10/21
· 4:00-6:00 PM for children ages 7-13 years
· 6:00-8:00 PM for ages 14-adult
Where: Art Association of Oswego (basement)
Tuition: $40 for AAO members; $48 for non-members
Materials: $25 for new clay; $0 for reclaimed (used) clay
Kiln firing: each firing of the kiln is $20, to be divided between the number of participants. 2 firings are required to finish your piece(s).
Tools will be provided. If you opt to buy new clay, please register soon and pay in advance for the clay.
